Countertops
Professional Kitchen Designs is pleased to provide for you countertops. We selectively subcontract this work to other fabricators and are proud to take complete responsibility for the final product and its installation, where applicable. Some use the E-Template Digital Measuring System. This method converts a digital picture taken on site into a CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawing which is then fed into our CNC (Computer Numerical Control) router to precisely cut the tops. Most recently, we have installed a state of the art Waterjet Cutting System for hard surfaces. We are committed to state of the art technology which reduces the risks of error.

Granite
Granite is an igneous rock, once molten before it cooled in the earth. It is one of the hardest materials known and is resistant to scratches, bacteria, acids, stains and heat. The minerals within (feldspar, quartz, mica, etc.) give each block a distinctive color and patterning. Customers are encouraged to hand pick their own particular slab for fabrication.

Marble
Marble, Michaelangelo's favorite stone, was once limestone whose structure was changed by pressure and heat within the earth. Other minerals were introduced, producing the valuable colors and veining which give it its sophisticated elegance. While not resistant to acids, marble requires only the same care as a fine wood finish. It is a beautiful choice for a bathroom.

Soapstone
Soapstone is another igneous, metamorphic stone composed primarily of talc. Its name comes from the soapy-feeling texture of its surface. It is nonporous and will not burn when exposed to heat; it is also resistant to chemicals and stains. Colors range from grey to blueish/greenish grey; veining varies from slab to slab. It is often used for laboratory as well as residential tops.

Solid Surface
Solid Surface materials are man-made acrylics which have been forged with natural minerals and colors. Their nonporous surface resists liquids, stains, molds and bacteria. Seams are hidden, and surfaces are chip and crack resistant. Since color and pattern run all the way through, cuts, burns and scratches can be sanded out. Easy care.

Quartz Surfacing
Quartz Surfacing materials are man-made combinations of quartz crystals (approximately 93%) with resins and pigments. The resulting surface is quartz-strong, nonporous and relatively consistent in appearance. Stain, scratch, heat and mold resistant, quartz surfaces, some say, are an improvement on nature.

Laminate
Laminate surfaces are man-made layers of paper impregnated with resins. Bonded at intense heat and pressure, they are bonded again to a substrate material such as particleboard. Available in countless colors, patterns and textures, they are an ideal countertop material where economy is an issue. Caution is needed around intense heat and humidity. Various edges may be used: self edge, bevel edge, wood edge and preformed postform edging.

Wood Tops
For those who desire a wooden top, whether for kitchen, bath, buffet, desk or other surface, Charlestowne offers several types - those of solid wood construction and those of veneer construction. Both are available in a variety of wood species and finishes.

Cultured Marble
Cultured Marble is a man-made blend of polyester resin and calcium carbonate which is poured into a gel coated mold to harden. It can be used for tops with integral bowls, shower bases and wall surrounds. Colors and patterns simulate those of marble, yet the cost is considerably less. It is not resistant to scratches, staining or chipping. This is the one type of top which is not made in our own plant, as the methods are very different from ours.
